  • Pope Leo XIV appoints Bishop Marshall as Apostolic Administrator to Diocese of Shreveport

    Pope Leo XIV appointed Bishop Robert W. Marshall, Jr. as the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Shreveport. Bishop Marshall will continue to serve as the bishop of the Diocese of Alexandria while managing the Shreveport diocese until the next bishop is installed. The appointment follows the resignation of Bishop Francis I. Malone, who submitted his resignation on his 75th birthday more than a year ago. Bishop Malone served as a priest for 49 years and as a bishop for six and a half years. Bishop Marshall announced the decision during a visit to Shreveport.

  • Dcn. Doug Moreau passes away

    The Diocese of Alexandria announced the death of Deacon Doug Moreau. A funeral Mass for Moreau is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 21, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church in Cottonport. Father Charlie Ray and other priests from the diocese will officiate. Visitation will occur from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. that morning at the same church, with a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery #2. Moreau was ordained a deacon in 2022. He participated in A.C.T.S. Retreats, Cursillo Retreats, the Steubenville Conference, and the That Man Is You program, and he assisted with CCD religious education classes. He worked at Avoyelles Value, Cooper Cameron, Inc., and DGI Supply before retiring in 2024.
