The Diocese of Bangassou in the Central African Republic was erected as a diocese in 1964 and is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Bangui. Bishop Juan José Aguirre, a Comboni Missionary, has led it since 2000, with Aurelio Gazzera, O.C.D., named coadjutor bishop in 2024.

History
Bangassou, in the Mbomou prefecture of the Central African Republic, is the seat of a suffragan diocese (Latin: Bangassuen(sis)) within the ecclesiastical province of Bangui. The see remains dependent on the missionary Dicastery for Evangelization. Its cathedral, the Cathédrale Saint Pierre Claver, honors the Jesuit Saint Peter Claver.
