Latin-rite metropolitan archdiocese seated in Maceio, capital of Alagoas state, Brazil. Erected as a diocese 2 July 1900 from the Diocese of Olinda and elevated to metropolitan archdiocese 13 February 1920, with suffragans Palmeira dos Indios and Penedo. Its cathedral is the Catedral Metropolitana Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres.
