The Diocese of Ruy Barbosa announced the death of Monsignor Edival de Souza Monteiro, the emeritus vicar of Piritiba. He died at approximately 17h on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Hospital Português in Salvador due to a general infection. As one of the first diocesan priests in the Diocese of Ruy Barbosa, Monsignor Monteiro served the Church and the local community for decades. The diocese stated that he built a history defined by pastoral commitment and faith. The diocese will release details regarding the wake and funeral services soon.
