History

Covering the canton of Ticino, the Diocese of Lugano (Latin: Dioecesis Luganensis) is a Latin Church territory of the Catholic Church in Switzerland, subject immediately to the Holy See. Its principal patron is Charles Borromeo, Archbishop of Milan, with Abundius, Bishop of Como, honored as secondary patron. A count in 2004 recorded 233,017 baptised persons among 306,846 inhabitants.
