History

Founded on 20 September 1785, the Diocese of České Budějovice (Latin: Dioecesis Budovicensis) lies almost entirely in Bohemia, with only a small eastern section in Moravia, and covers an area of 12 500 km2. Its first diocesan bishop was Jan Prokop Schaaffgotsche; the current bishop is Vlastimil Kročil.
