The Diocese of Erfurt is a Latin Church diocese in Thuringia, Germany. It was created in 1973 as the Apostolic Administration of Erfurt-Meiningen and erected as a diocese in 1994, and is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Paderborn.

History

The see of Erfurt (Latin: Dioecesis Erfordiensis) began in 1973 as the apostolic administration of Erfurt-Meiningen and was raised to a full Latin Church diocese in 1994, suffragan to the Archdiocese of Paderborn. When Bishop Joachim Wanke resigned in 2012, the see stood vacant until November 2014, when Ulrich Neymeyr took office, having previously served as auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Mainz.
