History

Founded in Roman times and raised to an archdiocese by Pope John XXII in 1318, the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Zaragoza (Latin: Archidiœcesis Metropolitae Cæsaraugustana; Aragonese: Archidiocesi Metropolitano de Zaragoza) is a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in north-eastern Spain, in the province of Zaragoza (older in English: Saragossa), part of the autonomous community of Aragón. As head of the ecclesiastical province of Zaragoza it holds metropolitan authority over the suffragan dioceses of Barbastro-Monzón, Huesca, Tarazona, and Teruel and Albarracín.
