History

A suffragan see in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Tours, the Diocese of Chartres (Latin: Dioecesis Carnutensis; French: Diocèse de Chartres) is a Catholic diocese in France. Its present territory covers the department of Eure-et-Loir together with four parishes located in the department of Eure. In 2021 the diocese counted one priest for every 4,413 Catholics.
