Diocese of Danlí

Danlien(sis)

The Diocese of Danli is a Latin rite see in eastern Honduras, erected on 2 January 2017 with Jose Antonio Canales Motino as its first bishop. Pope Leo XIV accepted Canales's resignation on 10 October 2025, naming Bishop Teodoro Gomez Rivera of Choluteca apostolic administrator. On 15 May 2026 Pope Leo XIV appointed the Spanish-born missionary Patricio Larrosa Martos, founder of ACOES and vicar general of Tegucigalpa, as second Bishop of Danli, with episcopal ordination scheduled for 25 July 2026.

A see whose chair stands empty is recorded as vacant rather than filled with a guess. On what a bishop is, see the bishop.

The cathedral

Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción, Danlí stands in Danlí, the church that holds the cathedra from which this see takes its name.

On what a cathedral is, see the cathedral; every see church on earth is gathered at the cathedrals.

The province of Tegucigalpa

A suffragan of Tegucigalpa.

What is kept by invitation

The record above is published because it is public: what this see is, when it was erected, who holds its chair, and where it stands among its neighbours.

The working record is not. The chancery's address, telephone and email, the clergy of the see, and the hours of Mass, confession and adoration in the parishes within it are kept for members, and a person reads every request.
