The Diocese of Sibolga is a Latin Church diocese on the west coast of North Sumatra, including the Nias islands, suffragan to the Archdiocese of Medan. It was established as an apostolic prefecture in 1959 and elevated to a diocese on October 24, 1980.

History

The city of Sibolga, in the ecclesiastical province of Medan in Indonesia, is the seat of this Roman Catholic diocese (Latin: Sibolgaen(sis)).

  • Caritas Indonesia and Keuskupan Sibolga hand over new homes

    Caritas Indonesia and the Diocese of Sibolga handed over 100 permanent houses to residents affected by flash floods and landslides in Central Tapanuli Regency on September 16, 2026. Msgr. Antonius Subianto Bunjamin, chairman of the Indonesian Bishops’ Conference, conducted the handover in Lubuk Ampolu Village, Badiri District. The housing project is part of the Compassionate Home Movement led by the Caritas Indonesia network and is supported by Caritas Internationalis through its Emergency Appeal 23/2025 program. Caritas Indonesia is currently finishing the construction of approximately 200 additional homes. The disaster, which occurred in late November 2025, damaged roughly 4,900 houses across Sibolga City, Central Tapanuli Regency, and South Tapanuli Regency. In the Diocese of Sibolga, the social outreach is supported by Caritas Diocese of Sibolga and the Capuchin Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation commission.
