Latin-rite metropolitan archdiocese in Jharkhand, India, erected as a diocese in 1927 from the Archdiocese of Calcutta and elevated to archdiocese in 1953. Its seat is St. Mary's Cathedral in Ranchi, with suffragans Daltonganj, Dumka, Gumla, Hazaribag, Jamshedpur, Khunti, Port Blair, and Simdega. Catholics number about 177,200 (2022).

History
Covering the Ranchi and Lohardaga districts of Jharkhand state, India, the Ranchi Catholic Metropolitan Archdiocese (Latin: Archidioecesis Metropolitae Ranchiensis) traces its founding to a decree of the Holy See of 25 May 1927, which separated it from the Calcutta Archdiocese as a new diocese with its episcopal seat at Ranchi. It was raised to an archdiocese in 1953. The archdiocese declares that it "subscribes to ahimsa and satyagraha".
