The Diocese of Niigata covers Niigata, Yamagata, and Akita prefectures in northwestern Japan. Erected as an apostolic prefecture in 1912 and raised to a diocese in 1962, it is led by Bishop Paul Daisuke Narui, S.V.D., and includes the site of the Marian apparitions of Akita.
