  • Eighteen Newly Ordained Catholic Priests in Angola Encouraged to Become Instruments of Reconciliation and Hope

    Archbishop Gabriel Mbilingi of the Archdiocese of Lubango urged 18 newly ordained priests to serve as instruments of reconciliation and hope for the people of Angola. During a Mass held on September 20 at the Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette in Mapunda, the archbishop told the new priests to remain close to those facing poverty, suffering, and social difficulties. The group of newly ordained priests includes 17 members of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette and one member of the Archdiocese of Lubango. Archbishop Mbilingi described the men as guardians of hope who must act in the person of Christ to serve concrete people rather than living in isolation. A member of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit told the priests that their ministry takes place in a society where vulnerable people face ongoing hardships and many young people struggle to find a secure future. He encouraged them to remain a sacramental presence of Christ in a country where human dignity is sometimes denied and the poor cry out for help.
