History

Dunedin, the second-largest city in the South Island of New Zealand, is the see city and cathedral home of the Latin Rite Roman Catholic Diocese of Dunedin (Dioecesis Dunedinensis), a suffragan of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Wellington. It was created on 26 November 1869 out of part of the territory of the Diocese of Wellington, before that see became an archdiocese.
