History

A dubious hagiographical tale places the founding of the see of Palermo in the first century, but the evidence points instead to a fifth century origin. The Metropolitan Archdiocese of Palermo (Latin: Archidioecesis Panormitana), a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church, gained archdiocesan rank in the 11th century. Corrado Lorefice is the archbishop.
