History
The Diocese of Vila Real (Latin: Dioecesis Villaregalensis), a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church in Portugal, dates from 1922, when it was assembled from territories belonging to the diocese of Bragança-Miranda, the archdiocese of Braga, and the diocese of Lamego. Located in the Norte region with its see at the Cathedral of Vila Real, it is a suffragan of the archdiocese of Braga.

Bishop of Vila Real dedicates altar of Nossa Senhora das Neves chapel
Bishop António Augusto de Oliveira Azevedo dedicated the altar of the Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows in Paredes do Alvão on September 26, 2026. The ceremony took place within the Parish of Soutelo de Aguiar. The dedication of the altar allows the chapel to reopen for services.
