Erected 6 November 1995 by Pope John Paul II with its first see at Newark, New Jersey; in 2022 the cathedral seat moved from St. Joseph Cathedral in Bayonne, New Jersey to St. Toma Syriac Catholic Cathedral in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

History
The whole of the United States falls within the Syriac Catholic Eparchy of Our Lady of Deliverance, an eparchy of the Syriac Catholic Church. Yousif Benham Habash has led it since April 2010, and its cathedral is St. Toma Cathedral in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
