History

Erected on 22 June 1967 by Pope Paul VI from territory taken out of the dioceses of Đà Lạt and Kontum, the Diocese of Ban Mê Thuột (Latin: Dioecesis Banmethuotensis) is centered on the city of Buôn Ma Thuột (formerly known as Ban Mê Thuột) in Đắk Lắk Province of the Central Highlands region and is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Huế. Of the two million people in its territory, more than 10% are Roman Catholics, many belonging to ethnic minorities. John Baptist Nguyễn Huy Bắc became bishop in 2024, after Bishop Vincent Nguyễn Văn Bản was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Hải Phòng in 2022.

What is kept by invitation

The record above is published because it is public: what this see is, when it was erected, who holds its chair, and where it stands among its neighbours.

The working record is not. The chancery's address, telephone and email, the clergy of the see, and the hours of Mass, confession and adoration in the parishes within it are kept for members, and a person reads every request.
