Licensing
The record can be licensed.
There is no shop here. If the work you are doing needs the record in bulk, write to us and say what it is for.
What there is
Catholic Intelligence keeps a record of the visible Church: living dioceses and eparchies with their sees and their bishops, parishes with their titles, addresses and geography, cathedrals, schools, religious institutes, and, where a parish publishes them, the hours of Mass, of confession, and of adoration. Every row carries where it came from and the day that source was last read.
Portions of it are prepared as dated files: a country, a state, a diocese, a class of church, or the whole of it at once. Nothing is generated to fill a file out. A field we do not hold comes back empty, and the depth of the record differs greatly from one country to the next.
Said plainly, before you ask
Location is close to complete: nearly every parish in the record is placed on the earth. Websites are not: about half the parishes in Italy and Poland publish one that we hold, and rather more in Canada. Hours of Mass are kept in depth for the United States, Canada, Italy and Australia, and are thin to absent nearly everywhere else. A file bought expecting otherwise would be a file bought under a false impression, so it is written here first rather than after.
What is published for free stays free. The register's own pages, the day's news, the cathedrals, the diocesan pages: none of that is behind this. Licensing is for the bulk file, which is a different thing from the record being open.
On what terms
One organisation, one licence, for its own work; not for resale as a list, and not for anything that would put a pastor's phone number in front of a machine that dials it. A parish's own facts belong to the parish. What we ask to be paid for is the keeping: the reading, the typing, the checking, and the saying-so when it has gone stale.
The governing document is the Terms of Sale and License, with the provenance statement incorporated into it, and the acceptable use policy alongside. Read them before you write, not after.
Write to us
Say what you are working on and what part of the record it needs. A person reads it and answers, usually within a business day, with what we actually hold for that scope and what we do not. If the answer is that we do not hold enough to be worth your money, that is the answer you will get.
