    Pope Leo XIV prays Angelus
    discussVatican16h ago

Pope Leo XIV led the Angelus prayer with pilgrims and the faithful in Saint Peter's Square on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

    Holy See Press Office

Pope Leo XIV led the Angelus prayer with pilgrims and the faithful in Saint Peter's Square on Sunday, September 6, 2026. Appearing from his study window in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Pope spoke about the importance of mutual love and fraternal correction during the 23rd Sunday of Ordinary Time.

The Pope noted that the Letter to the Romans teaches that all commandments are summarized in the instruction to love one's neighbor as oneself. He described mutual love as a debt that people owe to one another which brings freedom and responsibility rather than enslavement.

To practice this love, the Pope suggested that Christian communities use fraternal correction. He described this as a delicate process requiring honesty and a gradual approach, starting with face-to-face conversations before involving others or the wider community to resolve conflicts.

In an interview published by the Italy District on August 14, 2026, Di Sorco explained the distinction between the power of orders and the power of jurisdiction. He stated that the recent consecrations did not grant the new bishops any governing authority, as such power remains reserved for the Pope.
