1000 ans de la PAU I TREVA : Année diocésaine de le paix 2026/2027

The Diocese of Perpignan-Elne will observe a diocesan year of peace from 2026 to 2027 to mark 1,000 years of the Pau i Treva. Bishop Thierry Scherrer established the year to honor the medieval movement that established periods where fighting was forbidden to protect civilians. The diocese intends for the year to encourage people to build peace through dialogue, forgiveness, and fraternity in their daily lives.

The year began on September 6, 2026, with an opening ceremony that also marked the 100th anniversary of the coronation of Marie for the APLEC N.D de Font Romeu. Scheduled events include several conferences held in collaboration with the Saint'Egidio community and the Mont Thabor spirituality center, as well as three prayer vigils at the Saint Jean Paul II Chapel. A diocesan pilgrimage is also planned.

The celebrations will include a solemn Pentecost Mass at Toulouges on May 16, 2027, to commemorate the 1,000 years of the Pau i Treva proclamation. The diocesan year will conclude with a closing Mass on September 26, 2027, at Saint Michel de Cuxa.
