United States bishops marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with prayers for the victims and their families.

During a Mass held for the anniversary, Archbishop Ronald Hicks of New York said that healing and mourning take time and that the pain of such a tragedy does not disappear completely. He noted that while sadness and questions remain, hope in God and in one another has endured throughout the 25 years since the attacks.

Bishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, said that the nation turned to God in prayer and found unity through faith during the hours of fear and uncertainty following the attacks. He asked for the Holy Spirit to assist in the ongoing healing of the country and to provide comfort to the families of those who died.
