ДЕНЬ ПОМИНАННЯ О. ЗИНОВІЯ МИХАЙЛА МОНАСТИРСЬКОГО, СВЯЩЕННИК УГКЦ – НЕЗЛАМНИЙ СВЯЩЕННИК НЕСКОРЕНОЇ ЦЕРКВИ, ІСПОВІДНИКИ ВІРИ – (34 РОКІВ ТОМУ).

The Eparchy of Wrocław-Koszalin is observing a day of remembrance for Father Zynoviy Mykhailo Monastyrskyi, a Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church priest who died 34 years ago. Monastyrskyi passed away on September 20, 1992, in Chortkiv, Ternopil Oblast.

Born in Kydaniv in 1919, Monastyrskyi studied at the Saint Josaphat Basilian Missionary Institute in Buchach. Following the 1946 pseudo-Sobor, he entered the underground Church to serve pastoral communities in several villages, including Kydaniv, Sapova, Zarvanytsia, Vyshniivchyk, and others. During this time, he frequently celebrated Mass in the home of his cousin, Yuliia Monastyrska, where the miraculous icon of the Mother of God of Zarvanytsia was hidden.

The Eparchy notes that Monastyrskyi lived under KGB surveillance and refused offers to join the Moscow Patriarchate in exchange for a stable parish. When the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church emerged from the underground during the collapse of the Soviet Union, Monastyrskyi helped open a parish church in Zarvanytsia on December 27, 1989, alongside Father Vasyl Semeniuk and Father Ivan Yakymiv.
