One frequent claim is that a person has no sins. The publisher notes that people often mistake sin for only being grave actions like theft or murder. However, sin includes saying no to God's command to love others. This includes sins of intention, such as envy or resentment, sins of word, such as lying or criticism, and sins of omission, which occur when a person fails to do a good deed they were capable of performing.

Another common hesitation is the question of why someone would tell their sins to another sinner. The report clarifies that when a person confesses, they are speaking to God. The priest serves only as a mediator to help the person receive God's forgiveness, and the effectiveness of the sacrament does not depend on the holiness of the priest.
