46 Years Since John Paul II's Trip Along the Seine - VIDEO

Pope St. John Paul II traveled along the Seine in a traditional bateau mouche during his 1980 apostolic visit to Paris and Lisieux.

Before departing from Fiumicino Airport, the late pope expressed his hope that the trip would strengthen the faith of the French people and encourage them to witness to their beliefs. He noted his intention to visit the atmosphere of Notre-Dame and entrusted his journey to Mary, the Lady of France.

Pope Leo XIV is not expected to repeat the river boat ride.
