50 Years of FPMT. Ian Green’s Story: Monumental Dedication

Ian Green shared excerpts from his book, Monumental – The Story of the Stupa, as part of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Green, a pioneer student of the organization, read the account at the 2025 CPMT summit held at Kopan Monastery.

The text details the founding of the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion in Bendigo, Australia. Green recalls meeting Lama Thubten Yeshe in Melbourne in 1979 and later receiving design guidance for the stupa from Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche. His account also mentions a nine year world tour involving the Jade Buddha for Universal Peace.
