9/11 Mass at the national shrine in DC calls on Catholics to be agents of reconciliation

Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio celebrated a Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Sept. 11, 2026, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in Washington, New York, and Shanksville, Pa.

During his homily, Broglio, who leads the U.S. Archdiocese for the Military Services, urged Catholics to act as agents of reconciliation, dialogue, and peace. He called on the faithful to honor victims and first responders by working to rebuild a sense of common humanity and practicing forgiveness.
