A False Serenity: J. D. Vance and the apocalypse

United States Vice President J. D. Vance discussed end-of-the-world theology during a September 1 interview with Evangelical podcaster Bryce Crawford. Vance told Crawford that he has been interested in eschatology since he was ten or eleven years old and stated he would not be surprised if the Antichrist is already present in the world.

During the conversation, Vance suggested that the end times and the long-term survival of a better world are comparable outcomes. He told Crawford that if his actions lead to the end times, he accepts that, but if they lead to building a world that thrives long after his death, that is also a positive result.

Crawford, who founded the Jesus in the Streets ministry and hosts The Bryce Crawford Podcast, has a large following on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, primarily consisting of teenagers and people in their twenties. An Outlook Contributor noted that Vance presented these two possibilities as equivalents.
