A Fresh Start: Standing with Prisoners and Their Families

The Catholic Church will observe Prisoners’ Sunday on 11 October 2026 to pray and act for prisoners, their children, families, and everyone affected by imprisonment.

The Diocese of Hallam notes that people leaving prison often face significant challenges during their first weeks of release, such as finding safe housing, securing jobs, and reconnecting with relatives. Some individuals must navigate strict license conditions or attempt to rebuild their lives while experiencing homelessness.

The day serves as an opportunity to recognize the dignity of those incarcerated and to support organizations like the Prison Advice and Care Trust (Pact), which provides practical help with resettlement, employment, and family relationships.
