The Diocese of Debrecen-Nyíregyháza held a funeral Mass for Father Kálmán Szegedi on September 17 at the Sacred Heart Church in Debrecen. The memorial service honored the honorary canon and parish priest, who died on September 12 at age 69 after 44 years of priesthood.

Ferenc Palánki, the apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Debrecen-Nyíregyháza and bishop-elect of Kalocsa-Kecskemét, celebrated the Mass. He was joined by Zoltán Krakomperger, István Németh, and other priests.

During his homily, Palánki described the priesthood as a response of love to God's call. He noted that Szegedi demonstrated a commitment to God and the Church during illness and hardship, connected people to God through the sacraments and the Word, and maintained a diligent and conscientious work ethic.

Szegedi served as a parish priest in Demecser and at the Sacred Heart Parish in Debrecen.
