A Lasting Legacy, Frannie Groom Remembered

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Sisters of Charity of Nazareth gathered at the Nazareth cemetery on Oct. 6 to bury Frances “Frannie” Kercheval Groom. Groom, who died Sept. 27, 2026, at age 95, had previously been a member of the congregation for more than two decades.

Groom entered the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in the early 1950s and taught fourth grade at St. Agatha School in Upper Arlington, Ohio. Although she left the congregation in 1974, she maintained a connection to the community as a donor and a member of the SCN Legacy Society.

During a prayer service, Sister Marlene Lehmkuhl described Groom as unique. Those who lived with her noted her affection for animals and the outdoors. Her obituary mentioned her involvement with 4-H and the Humane Society. During the 1950s, Groom maintained a large garden while living with the Sisters.
