Algarve: D. Manuel Quintas despede-se da diocese, pedindo cristãos com «sabor a Evangelho»

Bishop Manuel Quintas is leaving the Diocese of Algarve after 25 years of service in the region. In an interview with Agência Ecclesia, the apostolic administrator expressed his desire for Catholics to take more responsibility for the Church's mission and to live with a character reflecting the Gospel.

Quintas noted that the region's population has grown, bringing new multicultural realities. He said this diversity is an enrichment if the Church can integrate everyone so that no one feels excluded. He highlighted that sharing worship spaces with Orthodox communities has helped people exchange information regarding housing and work difficulties.

To support these communities, Quintas invested in basic theology courses. He stated these courses aim to ensure parishioners are not merely consumers but responsible believers. He described the growth of shared responsibility within the mission of the Church and its local communities as a major challenge.
