Algarve: «Onde houver discriminação, a Igreja não pode estar calada», afirma novo bispo

Bishop Vitorino Soares stated that the Church cannot remain silent where discrimination exists following his installation as the bishop of the Algarve.

In an interview with Renascença and Agência Ecclesia, Soares discussed his transition into the role. He noted that while he previously felt a connection to the region, his recent experiences with local institutions, people, and the former bishop, Manuel Quintas, have deepened his sense of belonging to the Algarve.

Soares described the diocese as a place of plurality and communion. He said the diverse components within the community offer an opportunity to move beyond initial plans and embrace a variety of perspectives that enrich the local Church.
