Plans to establish the first ecumenical academy at the state level in Saxony have been suspended. The Diocese of Dresden-Meissen and the Saxon regional Church announced Friday that the merger of the Catholic and Protestant academies is postponed following the unexpected resignation of Bishop Heinrich Timmerevers.

The project will remain on hold until a new bishop is in office. Officials noted that this process typically takes at least one year.
