Fondazione Ambrosianeum to screen three documentaries on the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic

Fondazione Ambrosianeum will screen three documentaries to mark the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic. The film series, scheduled from September 28 to October 12, features docufilms originally produced in 1971 by Rai for the 25th anniversary of the Republic.

The screenings include works directed by Sandro Bolchi, Vittorio De Sica, and Ermanno Olmi. These films serve as historical records of the political, social, and civil climate during the formation of democratic Italy.

Each session will include introductions and commentary from historians, journalists, politicians, writers, and a film critic. Armando Fumagalli, a semiotics professor at the Milan branch of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, will provide brief comments on film history at each event. The program examines how public television and cinema helped shape the memory of the Republic through narrative and linguistic choices.
