AMECEA Bishops Task Kenya-Based Catholic University with Developing Degree Programme in Small Christian Communities
Bishops of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) have directed the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) to create a degree program in Small Christian Communities (SCCs).
Bishop Mark Kadima Wamukoya, chairman of the CUEA University Council, announced the directive during the university's 45th graduation ceremony on Friday, October 23. Bishop Kadima, who also chairs the Commission for Education and Religious Education at the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, stated that the program will use research and academic methods to evaluate and improve how SCCs function as a pastoral model.
The proposed curriculum intends to deepen the understanding of SCCs and strengthen their role in evangelization and fellowship. Bishop Kadima, the bishop of the Diocese of Bungoma, noted that the program will allow the Church to raise the implementation of these community structures to higher levels through academic engagement.
