AMECEA: Living Water in Action: East African Communities Mark the Season of Creation

Catholic communities across the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences of Eastern Africa (AMECEA) are marking the 2026 Season of Creation through prayer, advocacy, and water conservation efforts.

In Kenya, the Laudato Si' Movement Africa and JPIC Franciscans Africa received a water purification machine donated by Bondh E Shams to assist Maasai communities in Isinya. The villages of Olepolos, Olemunyak, and Reto are using the machine to access clean water while practicing agroecology. This system is powered by solar energy at the JPICFA Laudato Si’ Community Centre to link water access with renewable energy and food security.

Another community in northern Kenya is using a solar-powered system to draw water from a well 110 meters deep to combat drought and water scarcity. Additionally, the Laudato Si' Movement Kenya Chapter joined the Consolata Shrine for a Mass of Creation. This gathering included bishops, scholars, and the Franciscan family to discuss using Franciscan spirituality and sustainable finance to address environmental challenges.
