América: Sacerdote assassinado a tiro no México, Conferência Episcopal pede «investigação exaustiva»

The Mexican Episcopal Conference is calling for an exhaustive investigation after Father Román de la Cruz Hernández was shot and killed on September 15. The 48-year-old priest, who served as the pastor of Santa Cruz in Huejutla, Hidalgo, had his body abandoned on a road, according to the Ajuda à Igreja que Sofre foundation.

The bishops expressed indignation and sadness regarding the killing, describing it as another instance of extreme violence against the Catholic Church in Mexico. Bishop José Acosta Beltrán Lisboa of Huejutla urged authorities to ensure justice and prevent this case and other crimes from going unpunished. He also asked for intervention to address the alarming level of violence currently affecting the country.

Father de la Cruz Hernández had been the pastor of the Santa Cruz community since 2024. Ajuda à Igreja que Sofre noted that the small community is located in a region where criminal groups compete for control of fuel trafficking routes.
