Amid extreme weather, church resilience hubs provide safety

The Together New Orleans group is organizing church resilience hubs to provide safety during extreme weather events. The group established a clear vision following Hurricane Ida in 2021, which destroyed 31,000 utility poles and eight transmission lines in Louisiana.

The hurricane left 1 million people without power, causing some outages to last for several weeks. During the subsequent heat wave, 10 people died because they lacked air conditioning. Together New Orleans launched six weeks before the hurricane hit.
