An evening of reflection on Magnifica Humanitas amongst growing AI discourse
The Intercommunity Sisters Peace and Justice Committee will host two evening events to reflect on Pope Leo XIV’s first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas. The first gathering is scheduled for Oct. 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the Bishop Howard Memorial Auditorium in Covington, with a second session following on Nov. 30 at the same time and location.
Monsignor William Cleves, pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in Newport, will lead the reflections. His presentation will focus on chapters 3 through 5 of the encyclical, which address technology and dominance, the safeguarding of humanity, and a culture of power. The encyclical examines how artificial intelligence affects the human person.
Each session will include small group discussions facilitated by a committee member. Attendees can ask questions at the end of the first meeting, which will then be discussed during the Nov. 30 gathering. Sister Shauna Bankemper of the Notre Dame Sisters noted that the events aim to address curiosity regarding human dignity in the digital age.
