Angolan Catholic Archbishop Invited to Preside Over Fatima Pilgrimage in Portugal

Archbishop José Manuel Imbamba of the Catholic Archdiocese of Saurimo will preside over the International Anniversary Pilgrimage of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal. The pilgrimage is scheduled for September 12 and 13 and is expected to draw participants from around the world to the Portuguese shrine.

In an audio message released Friday, September 11, the President of the Bishops' Conference of Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe described the invitation as an honor and a chance to serve the universal Church. He noted that the gathering will be a unique moment for both the Church in Portugal and the global Church due to the international presence of the pilgrims.

Archbishop Imbamba said the event provides an opportunity for Christians to renew their faith and commit to the message of Fatima. He noted that the pilgrimage comes during a time when the world faces increasing violence.
