Apostolic Administrator of Chad’s Sarh Diocese Urges Faithful to Welcome, Collaborate With New Local Ordinary

Bishop Miguel Angel Sebastián Martínez has urged the faithful of the Diocese of Sarh in Chad to welcome and collaborate with their new bishop, Monsignor Jean Miguina. Speaking at St. Joseph Kassai Parish on September 20, the Apostolic Administrator told the community to receive the new leader with love because he comes in the name of the Lord.

Bishop Martínez noted that the July 16 appointment of Monsignor Miguina was unexpected. He explained that he had submitted his resignation to the Pope in September 2025 upon reaching the age of 75. He described the transition as a normal part of the Church and apostolic succession, which allows a younger bishop to take over the ministry.

A member of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus, Bishop Martínez also addressed questions regarding the incoming bishop's background. He encouraged Catholics not to let ethnicity, language, or geography create obstacles to welcoming their new shepherd, stating that the Church is universal and transcends such boundaries.
