Aquileia reunites fragments of medieval Gospel of St. Mark

Aquileia has reunited three scattered fragments of a sixth-century manuscript that was venerated for centuries as the Gospel written by the hand of St. Mark. The fragments had been separated for seven centuries before being brought back together.

The manuscript served as a relic because people believed it was the actual Gospel written by St. Mark, who was the interpreter and secretary of St. Peter. Local tour guide Anna Sairu told EWTN Noticias that the city's basilica contains medieval frescoes depicting St. Mark arriving to establish the first Christian community there.
