Archbishop Adam Szal urges prayer after knife attack at Polish abbey

Archbishop Adam Szal asked for prayers on Thursday after a priest died following a knife attack at a Benedictine abbey in Jarosław, Poland. The attack occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Nicholas and St. Stanislaus the Bishop, located within the abbey complex, before a scheduled Mass.

The incident left four others wounded, including two priests and two lay people, one of whom is a woman. Police arrested a 31-year-old Ukrainian man on suspicion of carrying out the attack, though authorities have not established a motive. The priest involved died in a hospital.

Archbishop Szal, who leads the Archdiocese of Przemyśl, requested prayers for the deceased, the injured, and the conversion of the attacker. Polish President Karol Nawrocki expressed sadness over the priest's death and called for a thorough investigation by state authorities to ensure citizen safety.
