Archbishop Martin: Let’s not forget our missionary genes but hope and trust in God

Archbishop Eamon Martin joined the Society of African Missions to celebrate 100 years since the opening of Dromantine as a house of formation. During a centenary Mass, the Archbishop reflected on the missionary history that began in 1926 when Dromantine opened as a theological college for the society.

Archbishop Martin noted that generations of men were trained there for the priesthood and missionary work, with many serving communities throughout Africa and other regions. He described the missionary spirit of the Irish Church during those years as being marked by courage and confidence, noting that many men and women responded to the call to mission following periods of social and political upheaval.

The Archbishop thanked the Society of African Missions fathers, both past and present, for their work in the Diocese of Dromore. He specifically highlighted their pastoral service in local parishes, their ministry to young people, and their work through the Dromantine Retreat and Conference Centre.
