Archbishop Ricardo Centellas of Sucre dies

Archbishop Ricardo Centellas, the primate of the Archdiocese of Sucre, died on Thursday, September 24, following a heart attack in Oruro. The Bolivian Episcopal Conference reported that the 63-year-old archbishop collapsed while attending anniversary events at the Universidad Católica Boliviana.

Bishop Adolfo Bittschi, auxiliary bishop emeritus of Sucre, stated that medical teams in Oruro were unable to revive the archbishop after he was rushed to a hospital. A group of priests from the Chuquisaca clergy traveled to Oruro to manage the transfer of his remains.

The body is currently being held at the chapel of Mother Nazaria Ignacia in Oruro for a vigil. Following legal procedures, the remains are expected to arrive in Sucre this Friday. While the specific time for Friday's mass has not been set, official funeral services and a mass for the deceased are scheduled for Tuesday morning at the Sucre Cathedral. The burial is also expected to take place at the cathedral.
