Archdiocese of Huê and Diocese of Kontum honor Saint Teresa of Avila

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

The Church honors St. Teresa of Avila, a virgin and Doctor of the Church, on October 15.

Born on March 28, 1515, Teresa was the daughter of a man who had returned to the faith and a mother named Beatrice. After the death of her brother Jean, she attended a school run by Augustinian nuns. Following a crisis in 1536, she joined the Đan viện Nhập Thể. Despite her father's opposition, she entered the monastery and made her vows on November 3, 1537.

Teresa faced several periods of illness. During one instance when her health was considered hopeless, she recovered while at the monastery. During her recovery, she spent time with friends and engaged in music, poetry, reading, and writing.
