Archdiocese of Ibagué to hold collection for needy parishes

The Archdiocese of Ibagué will hold a collection for needy parishes on Sunday, September 27, to support communities struggling with financial stability and structural damage. Archbishop Orlando Roa Barbosa called on Catholics in the archdiocese to support the collection, which aims to strengthen pastoral work and assist in repairing churches.

This year, the funds will specifically assist parish communities whose buildings were damaged by an earthquake on August 10. Affected structures include the Metropolitan Cathedral, Nuestra Señora del Carmen, and Nuestra Señora de Chiquinquirá in Ibagué, as well as Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Roncesvalles and Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro in Anzoátegui. The earthquake also caused damage to rectories, the archdiocesan curia, and Colegio Tolimense.

The annual collection takes place on the last Sunday of September to provide resources for priests in parishes without stable economies.
