Archdiocese of Malta distributes €1.3m to vulnerable people
The Archdiocese of Malta distributed more than €1.3 million in donations to vulnerable people during the Jubilee Year of Hope, according to its 2025 financial report. This increase in social support occurred despite the Church recording an overall financial shortfall of approximately €1 million during the same year.
Michael Pace Ross, the administrative secretary of the Archdiocese of Malta, said the direct financial assistance is part of a broader commitment to support people in need. These groups include migrants, families experiencing poverty, people affected by substance abuse, and children or adolescents requiring care and protection. The funds also support survivors of domestic violence and other forms of abuse.
The Church also donated properties to support social services. In January 2025, Archbishop Charles Scicluna inaugurated St Michael Hospice, a Church property donated to Hospice Malta for specialized palliative care. Additionally, preliminary work has begun at the Ta’ Saura Empowerment Hub, a donated property intended to become Malta's first integrated center for children and young people with different abilities.
The Archdiocese also renewed public social partnership agreements with Caritas Malta, the Migrants’ Commission, and Fondazzjoni Sebħ. Under its agreement, Fondazzjoni Sebħ received €2.7 million in government service payments to support families and children in challenging circumstances or those fleeing violence.
